Tropic Falls at OWA in Foley, Alabama, big bang for your buck

Roller Coaster at OWA

I recently returned to OWA to tour the new additions at OWA. There is a bang for your buck here. The staff and facilities are top-notch. Whether you need a weekend getaway or a family day out, this is a great option for all visitors.

OWA opened the theme park in 2017, and while the restaurants and shops have changed since then, they have all changed for the better. Speaking with several retailers in Downtown OWA, they anticipate a busy spring and summer season. Here you can read about my first visit to OWA. It will show you of the changes that have happened over the years.

New Dining Options

Cozumel Bar and Grill. I enjoyed a chicken taco salad lunch at Cozumel with the Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Cathy Pavloski. My ‘rainbow margarita’ was a beautifully crafted libation. The atmosphere was casual and pleasant, and the service was excellent. I appreciated that the music at lunch was not too loud. The nighttime vibe is sure to be fun. A definite recommendation.

Waffles R Wild Speakeasy serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including waffles, sandwiches, fried chicken, waffle pizzas, desserts, and drinks. I stopped by for a quick look around but did not have an opportunity to try the food.

Towne Tap Here, you can pour your pint. It was the first self-serve beer tap I had seen locally. You can try as many beers as you want. They all have a full menu of Pub Grub.

Murder Creek Distillery. I tried Moonshine in Tennessee, so I know the appeal of the flavored alcohol. I watched the bar manager, Jonathon, serve the crowd. Once the out-of-towners were happy, Jonathon gave me a quick taste of the distillery and a bit of history. Founded in Brewton, Alabama, they moved to OWA. in early 2021. They produce small batches of their moonshine on the premises with a staff of three people. It’s tasty and fun. I must say I enjoyed the Dreamsicle flavor.

C’est Le Vin Wine Bar and Shop I enjoy a nice wine bar. Located near the park’s front entrance, it’s an easy way to begin or end an evening out. They open at 3, so I didn’t have a chance to visit, but I did love the atmosphere and the Prosecco on a previous visit.

New Attractions

Splashdown at Tropic Falls

Tropic Falls When I arrived in the afternoon, Tropic Falls was in full swing. People enjoyed the slides, the lazy river, and just relaxing around the pools. Two new attractions, Tropic Falls, have recently opened: Big Water Bay outdoor wave pool and Coastal Curl surf simulator. Big Water Bay was an impressive poolside area with plenty of chairs and cabanas for relaxing. The poolside bar makes it easy to enjoy an afternoon drink by the pool. On the Coastal Curl, you can test your surfing skills. The Falls building has a retractable roof and is usually open on most Gulf Coast warm days, but it was closed on those slightly cooler afternoons.

Pickleball at OWA The latest sports craze is well represented in OWA.  They have the first Gulf Coast’s first-ever climate-controlled Pickleball facility. It includes 4 courts, a pro shop, seating areas, lockers, snacks, and beverages. Individuals can purchase a membership in the club, which is open 24/7. It’s a fantastic deal if you love Pickleball!

Shopping at OWA

From Native Treasures to Alvin’s Island, visitors can find plenty of things to buy in Downtown OWA. Feed your sweet tooth or grab a set of board shorts for the Coastal Curl surf simulator.

Alvin’s Island

Theater

Although the Legends shows have ended, there are still plenty of live shows at the theater. A link to the upcoming shows can be found here.

Upcoming Events

OWA will host the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Show from May 2 to 4. This is an exciting event for everyone, and in addition to the hot air balloons, there are plenty of other events.

New Accommodations at OWA

Tropic Hideaway

Tropic Hideaway RV Park is the latest addition to the park. It has ample parking for 190 RV’s. It also has two pools, a pickleball court, and an outside kitchen for visitors. I was impressed with the layout. You can see all the details about Tropic Hideaway here. This will be the new go-to place for RVers in Foley.

Marriot’s Townplace Suites remains the mainstay for accommodation when visiting OWA or the Foley Sports Complex next door. It is a great option for an overnight or multinight stay. Groundbreaking will soon take place for a resort-style hotel to be located next to Tropic Falls. I can’t wait to see what they have planned.

Come on in, the Water’s fine

Big Water Bay at Tropic Falls

OWA is the theme park in South Alabama that offers a family getaway or just a day out for the kids. There are always plenty of events for both adults and kids. The kids will love the amusement park and Tropic Falls, while Mom and Dad can relax at Big Water Bay, enjoy a stroll around downtown OWA, or take in a show at the theatre. It’s our local come-and-enjoy theme park.
