I had the pleasure of previewing a soon to be released book, Texas Titans by Charles Denyer. I am a student of presidential history and enjoyed learning about the incredible friendship these two titans of the political world shared. Products of the greatest generation, these men have made an indelible impression on the county. Mr. Denyer dives deep into the personal and political relationship between these two men. Seek out this book for an interesting read about how the Bush/Baker friendship helped shape the country’s political destiny of the 1980s, 90s, and beyond.
An interview with Charles Denyer
Mr. Denyer was gracious enough to answer a few questions regarding his new book.
Q: What was your impetus for the idea for the book?
It’s an incredible friendship that many Americans are simply not aware of. While we know quite a bit about the lives of each of these men from an individual perspective, not much has been discussed regarding their long, personal friendship that started out on the tennis courts of the Houston Country Club.
Q: Did you ever have the opportunity to meet President Bush or Secretary Baker?
Yes, Mr. Baker was interviewed multiple times for the book, but unfortunately, President Bush passed away before I could speak with him, but I had communicated with him on prior books.
Q: Your background is cybersecurity business, why are you writing books about political leaders?
Well, in my world of cyber security, it has afforded me access to some of our country’s top political operatives from the last 50 years, thus it was a natural progression into me as I have always loved writing.
Q: You clearly have a lot of knowledge about the vice presidency, do you have any political ambitions?
No, not at this time!
Q: What do you think President Bush would think of what is happening with the 2020 election?
I think the mudslinging and the name-calling would no doubt bother him, but this is the new world of 24-hour news and social media cycle, so expect it to be the norm.
Q: How long did it take to research the book? Then how long did it take to then write the book?
Three years research and 15 months to write.
